MLNLP 2021 Speakers

 

Keynote Speaker I

Prof. Zhongxiang Shen, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (IEEE Fellow)

Zhongxiang Shen received the B. Eng. degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 1987, the M. S. degree from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 1990, and the PhD degree from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 1997, all in electrical engineering. From 1990 to 1994, he was with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China. He was with Com Dev Ltd., Cambridge, Canada, as an Advanced Member of Technical Staff in 1997. He spent six months each in 1998, first with the Gordon McKay Laboratory, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, and then with the Radiation Laboratory, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, as a Postdoctoral Fellow. In Jan. 1999, he joined Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, as an assistant professor, where he is currently a Full Professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Dr. Shen served as Chair of the IEEE MTT/AP Singapore Chapter in 2009. From Jan. 2010 to Aug. 2014, he was the Chair of IEEE AP-S Chapter Activities Committee. From July 2014 to December 2018, he was the Secretary of IEEE AP-S. He is currently serving as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. Prof. Shen is an IEEE Fellow. His research interests include the design of small and planar antennas for various wireless communication systems, analysis and design of frequency-selective structures and absorbers, hybrid numerical techniques for modeling RF/microwave components and antennas. He has authored more than 200 journal papers (among them 120 were published in IEEE Journals) and also presented more than 180 conference papers.

 

 

Keynote Speaker II

Prof. Yutaka Ishibashi, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan (IEEE Senior Member)

Yutaka Ishibashi received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan, in 1981, 1983, and 1990, respectively. In 1983, he joined the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (currently, NTT) Laboratories. From 1993 to 2001, he served as an Associate Professor of Faculty of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology. Currently, he is a Professor of Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology. From June 2000 to March 2001, he was a visiting researcher, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of South Florida (USF), USA. He was the Head of Department of Computer Science, Nagoya Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2006 and from 2007 to 2009. He was a College Director at Nagoya Institute of Technology from 2016 to 2020. His research interests include networked multimedia, QoS (Quality of Service) control, and remote robot control with force feedback. He was the Chair of the IEICE Communication Quality (CQ) Technical Committee from 2007 to 2009. He served as TPC Chair of IEEE CQR (Communications Quality and Reliability) Workshop in 2011 and 2012. He also served as ACM NetGames (Network and Systems Support for Games) Workshop Co-Chair in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2017, Executive Committee Chair of Tokai-Section Joint Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Information, and Related Engineering in Japan, Chair of IEEE MAW 2017 (Metro Area Workshop in Nagoya, 2017). He was further IEEE Nagoya Section Chair in 2017 and 2018. He is currently a Vice President of ITE (The Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers) and Chair of ITE Tokai Branch. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Fellow of IEICE, and a Member of ACM, ITE, IPSJ, VRSJ, and IEEJ.

 

 

Keynote Speaker III

Prof. Long Cheng, North China Electric Power University, China (IEEE Senior Member)

Dr. Cheng is a Full Professor in the School of Control and Computer Engineering at NCEPU in Beijing and a Visiting Professor at Insight in Dublin. His research mainly lies in distributed systems, deep learning, cloud computing and process mining. Specifically, he is interested in performance optimization for parallel and distributed data applications and systems. Dr. Cheng was an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at Dublin City University (DCU), and a Marie Curie Fellow at The Performance Engineering Laboratory (PEL) directed by Prof. John Muphy in University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. Before joining UCD in 2018, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Architecture of Information Systems Group (AIS) in Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), worked with Prof. Wil van der Aalst for about two years focusing on new process mining techniques that are able to deal with huge event logs. During 2014 and 2016, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Knowledge-based System Group led by Prof. Markus Krötzsch at TU Dresden (Germany). Dr. Cheng received his PhD degree from National University of Ireland Maynooth under the supervision of Prof. Tomas Ward in 2014. During his PhD, he was also a research assistant at IBM Research Dublin under the supervision of Prof. Georgios Theodoropoulos and Dr. Spyros Kotoulas. Currently, aside from the main focus on advancing network-aware computing systems, high-performance DNN inference and energy data analytics, Dr. Cheng also has some collaborative projects in intelligent IoT edge systems, cloud-based process mining, high-performance privacy-preserving data processing, in-network computing, and AI accelerator. He is currently a Senior Member of the IEEE.

 

 

Keynote Speaker IV

Prof. Jie Yang, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China

Jie Yang received a bachelor’s degree in Automatic Control in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where a master’s degree in Pattern Recognition & Intelligent System was achieved three years later. In 1994, he received Ph.D. at Department of Computer Science, University of Hamburg, Germany. Now he is the Professor and Director of Institute of Image Processing and Pattern recognition in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is the principal investigator of more than 30 national and ministry scientific research projects in image processing, pattern recognition, data mining, and artificial intelligence. He has published six books，more than five hundreds of articles in national or international academic journals and conferences. Up to now, he has supervised 5 postdoctoral, 36 doctors and 66 masters, awarded eight research achievement prizes from ministry of Education, China and Shanghai municipality. Two Ph.D. dissertation he supervised was evaluated as “National Best Ph.D. Dissertation” in 2009, in 2017, in 2019.  He has owned 48 patents.

 

 

Plenary Speaker I

Prof. Muhammad Imran, University of Glasgow, UK (IET Fellow/ IEEE Senior Member)

Muhammad Ali Imran is Fellow IET, Senior Member IEEE, Senior Fellow HEA. He is Dean University of Glasgow UESTC and a Professor of Wireless Communication Systems leading a group of 100+ researchers working in wide ranging technologies in devices and systems for communications. He has over 20 years of combined academic and industry experience with several leading roles in multi-million pounds funded projects. He has filed 15 patents; has authored/co-authored over 400 journal and conference publications; has authored 2 books, edited 8 books and authored more than 30 book chapters; has successfully supervised over 40 students at Doctoral level. He has been a consultant to international projects and local companies in the area of self-organised networks.

 

 

Invited Speaker I

Prof. Kisalaya Chakrabarti, Haldia Institute of Technology, India (IEEE Senior Member)

Professor (Dr.) Kisalaya Chakrabarti has 18 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. His research domain covers different areas of Optical Communications. He has obtained Doctoral from University of Tsukuba, Japan and two Postdoctoral certificates from Utsunomiya University and National Institute for Material Science also from Japan. He has administrative experiences as Chair Professor in the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Bengal Institute of Technology and Management (Santiniketan), where he has also worked as Dean (R&D) for few months. He rendered his duties as Principal at Secom Engineering College situated at Sankrail, Howrah and Pailan College of Management and Technology (PCMT), Kolkata for around two years. The title of his PhD thesis was “An Investigation of Photonic Crystals and Time-Reversed Scattering using Nonstandard FDTD”. Presently he is working as a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology, ICARE Complex, HIT Campus, Haldia, Purba Medinipur, India. He was the Senior Member of IEEE and he is the Life Fellow of Optical Society of India since 2005. He was the recipient of prestigious MONBUKAGAKUSHO (MEXT) Scholarship for his Doctoral Program at University of Tsukuba from the Japanese Government.
